My Favorite Things From Fall 2021 Ready-to-Wear...So Far

For the past few weeks, these Fashion Week shows have been giving me life and plenty of inspiration!

Spending extra time confined to my home - not to mention the arctic blast that hit the Midwest last week - has me fantasizing about the world that once was. Better yet, a world that could be.

I wouldn’t consider myself a fashionista, rather a fashion enthusiast; or an admirer of the art of fashion…nonetheless, fashion and style have always been a huge part of my brand. In fact, my first blog was a personal lifestyle and fashion blog. And even when I ended that journey and began Juana, the fashion element remained.

Alas, I trimmed down the amount of fashion posts on the blog last spring because they weren’t gaining enough traction. One of the cut segments happened to be my Fashion Week reviews, and as much as I loved curating those posts, at the time it was necessary to focus on other things - so I made the decision and never looked back.

It wasn’t until this past week when I was forced to really stay at home (no grocery store, park, or local cafe) that I realized how much joy, pleasure, and connection to the outside world I felt through viewing these collections. So long story short, they’re back…at least for now.

For the first time in a long time, I took my time to revel in each show. And while this isn’t the most exciting season in recent years, it is the most necessary. So necessary in fact, I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites.

Although I thought I would see more creativity as far as digital / mixed media and AR are concerned, I did appreciate the use of traditional silhouettes to introduce futuristic and utilitarian concepts - which many of my favorite shows did this season.

Ultimately, I decided to choose five shows that I felt embodied the times - while predicting the future ahead, and did so in the most relevant and visually appealing way.

Honorable mention to Tia Adeola - because she bought the girls owt honey; and Proenza Schouler for such clean yet interesting pieces.

Next week is PFW, and I must admit, I’m excited to see what she’ll bring. Until then, enjoy my favorite things from Fall 2021 Ready-to-Wear thus far.
